Recovering Your Skin From Illness

Favourite products to protect skin during illness
Getting ill is never fun but when it begins to mess with your skin, the skin you’ve spent months getting the right balance for, things are gonna go down.  Even when I’m feeling the illest of ill, I know maintaining a decent skincare routine will make me feel better in the long run.  So I thought I’d put together my ultimate product guide for when illness threatens your skins harmony.  If I’ve wrote a full review on the product you can click the product name in bold to be taken to it.  I recently tested this method when I was struck down with what I now believe to be a very nasty cold on Christmas Eve and my skin barely suffered.
Of course ANR was going to make an appearance.  Even after two years, I would still bill this as my ultimate skincare product.  Nourishing; check, defends the skin; check, rejuvenating; check. When it comes to looking after your skin when you’re ill, ANR does it all.  When I’m feeling poorly I up the anti and apply this product every evening before I go to bed (usually it’s just once twice a week).  Most the time when I wake up in the morning, people can rarely tell I’m ill (until I speak or snot my way through a conversation.)  I know Estee Lauder also do an illness specific version of this product so if you are majorly ill you can pick up an intense twenty one day treatment.
Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask
Layered over my Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair I usually layer a moisturiser but when I’m ill I up the dosage of moisturising face masks.  Every few days I switch my regular night cream for my favourite face mask; the Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask.  Usually I use this once a week on a Sunday as a treat, but as my already dry skin becomes more prone to drying out when I’m fighting illness I like to give my skin an extra overnight treat.
I’m not sure about you, but when I have a cold it usually comes with a blocked nose at night thus meaning I struggle to breathe through it.  Even when I apply Vix I still end up breathing through my mouth which then leaves me with lips full of dry, cracked skin.  Every morning a make sure I buff away this skin so that I’m left with fresh skin that are ready to moisturise and don’t look to gross either.
Nuxe Rev Di Miel
As I mentioned, my lips dry out to a crisp when I’m ill.  I like to use an intense moisturiser both day and night to keep them as supple as they can be.  My balm of choice is the Nuxe Rev Di Miel Lip Balm which I usually reserve for night time use only.  It’s thick enough to protect from the elements but gives my lips the extra surge of moisture they require.  If I don;t have the Nuxe to hand I favour the Blistex Intense Lip Treatment. Does the job too and smells good!
Bath and Body Works Sweet Pea Anti Bac Hand Gel
I’d hate to be one of those people that doesn’t make a conscious effort to prevent others getting their illness and I knew buying all that hand gel from Bath and Body Works would finally pay off.  Scented hand gel really does make you feel better when you’re poorly.  There’s nothing worse than just having to use the alcohol =, medically scented hand gels when you’re already feeling rubbish.  I’ve been loving the one called ‘Sweet Pea’ from Bath and Body Works but it actually smells like watermelon.  It instantly cheers me up and reminds me of a cocktail, yum!
Balance Me Super Moisturising Hand Cream*
With an increased usage of anti bacterial gel comes the increased use of hand cream.  It’s just a given really and alcohol can dry out even the oiliest of hands.  Even though my Bath and Body works offering of anti bac doesn’t completely dry my hands out, as a dry skinned lady I like to be prepared.  It’s all about keeping the balance.  Recently I’ve been loving the Balance Me Super Moisturising Hand Cream which uses an uplifting blend of skin conditioners, butters and oils to leave even the driest hands smooth and soft to touch.
So that’s my illness fighting skin defence line up.  Products that help me look my best and actually give off the impression that I’m perfectly healthy.  I’d love to know what products you rely on to make you feel better when you’re poorly.
