My Resolutions for 2019

Charlotte on the pink porch at Disneyland Paris

It’s that time of year where we all try and make a few more promises to ourselves. Here’s mine for 2019.

Read more – Since taking a job in Marketing back in 2017, I promised myself I’d read more so I was constantly expanding my vocabulary (helps when writing copy!) Only it hasn’t quite materialised… Reading always got pushed to last on the list of things I wanted to do (or more realistically, thought I had time for). This year though it’s going to be different. I now commute too and from work and usually get a seat (weyheyyy) so there’s no excuse for not opening a book or two. I’m going to start realistically and aim for 12 books in 2019. That’s one a month and so should be easily doable on my commute.

Travel to new places – I’ll be honest and say this is an ongoing resolution that I have every year. Last year I visited Marbella and Brussels which were both lovely. This year we’ve already got Iceland and Prague on the agenda thanks to Christmas presents but I’m hoping to add at least one more new destination to that list for 2019. I’m very lucky that I’m also going back to Florida and California too.

Pay off my credit card – Every year I say this and every year I fail. To be honest I’m happy to not pay it off if I’ve paid off a sizable chunk of the balance. No more minimum payments – I’m making a real effort now to clear it ASAP!

Travel lighter – In my family, I am known for being an over packer. While it’s great that I’m pretty much prepared for EVERY situation, it’s not so great for my back heaving a huge suitcase up and down the stairs on the underground. In 2019 I aim to be more strategic with my packing and I’m hoping my back and shoulders will thank me later!

Volunteer more – 2019 is the year of giving back! Every year I talk about volunteering or doing more for charity and this year I’m determined to put my money where my mouth is. My employer has a fantastic volunteer scheme that I’m determined to get involved in. If I have time to prance about for photos for the gram, I have the time to help others.

2019 is the year of self control…

Buy less – This one goes hand in hand with paying off the old CC. I want to buy less. Hands in the air, I’m such an impulsive buyer. If I see something I want I buy it without really thinking (something I’m fortunate enough to be able to do) but I want to enter my 30’s with a more sensible head on my shoulders. At the end of 2018 I started working to a little self imposed rule of if ‘ if I see an item and I’m still thinking about it in 10 days, I can then go and buy it’ – The truth is, is that 10 days down the line I’ve usually forgotten about it meaning I didn’t REALLY want it anyway. Also, as with most others, I’ve become very conscious of my footprint on this planet. I’m not perfect and don’t always get it right but between using less plastic, eating less meat and buying less fast fashion, I’m making a start in the right direction! You’ll still see me in Primark, but I won’t just be throwing things in the basket now without a good think about if I need it or not

Finally finish Pokemon – When I was 10 I got my first game boy colour with Pokemon blue. Then a while after that I got the yellow version because obviously I had to have Pikachu follow me round. I’d play all the time, start adventure after adventure yet I never finished it. I never won the Pokemon League! Well this year, it’s gonna be different!

Sleep more – My final resolution is to sleep more. I love going to bed early and am regularly in bed these days for 9:30 pm. However, I can’t seem to bring myself to go to sleep. I’ll try and squeeze in one more episode of Gilmore Girls or have an aimless scroll through Instagam and before I know it, it’s 12:15am and I wake up in the morning so, so tired. In 2019 I’m going to try and make a real effort to be asleep by at least 11pm. I know my body will thank me for it.

So there we have it. My resolutions for 2019. Whether you make resolutions or not, I wish you a prosperous year!
