When looking for a hotel to stay in while in Dubai, we knew we wanted to stay on the Palm but that was as far as the requirements actually went. After hunting around on a few different hotel booking sites we ended up booking the Sofitel Dubai The Palm Hotel as it was on offer. And boy was it a good decision!
The hotel itself is located on the outer crescent of the palm – situated between Atlantis and The Waldorf Astoria. Opening in 2013, the hotel has a Polynesian feel. The lobby area is beautiful; high ceiling, marble, light and airy. You can get about 3 steps into the lobby with your bag before somebody will take it from you. We found nothing too much for any of the staff in the lobby and car waiting area. The reception staff were very helpful. After an overnight flight, we were super early for check in and they encouraged us to freshen up and then leave our bags while we went and relaxed around the pool area.
While our trip to Dubai was fleeting enough to mean we didn’t spend that much time in the hotel, we still got to check out the great facilities that Sofitel Dubai The Palm had to offer. We spent our first morning around the main pool area which had a huge amount of sunbeds and plenty of umbrellas for me to hide my delicately pale skin under. Beyond the main pool areas was my favourite part of the hotel; the private beach. Stretching for 500m, the views are spectacular; it overlooks one of the other stems of The Palm and just off into the distance is the Dubai Marina area.
We spent hours on the beach; sunbathing, watching the water sports, snoozing and watching the sunset over Atlantis. One of the great things about the beach was the waiter service. There were call buttons on the tables and with one click of a button, a friendly waiter would appear to take your order. We ordered ‘beach room service’ on a number of occasions and sampled a range of their lunch menu – I can recommend the Caesar Salad – and cocktails in pineapples.
Other facilities at the hotel included fire pits, beach volleyball, water sports including dragon boat racing, skiing and paddle boarding. We also checked out the gym and used their changing rooms after a day of lounging; after check out and before our flight home.
One of my favourite parts about the Sofitel Dubai The Palm Hotel was our room. Quite simply, it was gorgeous. Polynesian themed with dark wood and pops of blue made it feel very swish! We had requested a room with two beds but on a busy Grand Prix weekend, there wasn’t any left so we ended up in a super king – which was more like a super, super king anyway! We had so much room! The bed was super comfy and it felt like I was sleeping on a cloud. I actually didn’t want to come back to my own bed! Each night they would come in and do turn down, leave cosy slippers on the side, chocolate on the pillows and bottled water on the bedside tables. It’s the small touches like this that you remember and when I look back on our stay, it’s the personal service that you remember.
I can’t mention the room without talking about the bathroom. Now I have a bit of a thing for beautiful bathrooms and this one was the most gorgeous bathroom I’ve ever seen in a hotel. The gigantic bath was more like a swimming pool and the waterfall shower was the nicest shower to stand under and forget about all your troubles. The bathroom opened out on to the bedroom so if you were there with your other half and one of you was in the bath, you could open out the shutters and still have a conversation. Another good thing I should mention about Dubai (because I struggled to find this online) is that they use UK plugs – no need for adapters!
We ate in two of the restaurants that the Sofitel Dubai The Palm Hotel had to offer. On Friday we had a famous Dubai brunch and on our last night, we sampled some wonderful Italian food at Bottega- Italian & American Deli. This restaurant was located in the villa area of the resort and one of the helpful bellboys took us there from the front desk on in a golf cart so we wouldn’t have to walk. The food was lovely. I had mushroom risotto and it was one of the tastiest risottos I’ve ever eaten.
There’s also an ice cream parlour in the lobby area and if we were too stuffed for a pudding with dinner, we just grabbed a little ice cream to take back to the room.
Would I Stay at Sofitel Dubai The Palm Again?
Yes, absolutely! We’re looking at heading back to Dubai later on this year and will be giving the Sofitel Dubai The Palm’s prices a little check when we come to booking. We’d have no hesitation in staying here again as we were really pleased with the facilities and the service.
