Why I Started Blogging and Making YouTube Videos

why i started bloggingSomebody reminded me the other day that I’ve now been blogging for nearly four years! Holy cow! Where has that time gone?  I thought it was about time to share my story about why I started blogging back on that rainy January day back in 2012.  I love reading a good ‘blog origins’ story as I like to call them so grab a cuppa because this is the making of LMC…

Even though I’ve been doing this nearly four years now, I still feel like a blogging newbie and back in 2012 when I first started I felt like I was so late to the game so god know how people feel who are just starting out in 2015.  I’d discovered blogs a few months before at the back end of 2011 after moving out of my mum’s house and into my first house with my then boyfriend.  I worked a 9-5 which I hated and my boyfriend worked shifts which caused me to feel a little lonely around the flat at times.  I also had all four of my wisdom teeth out and was home from work for a few days and I was bored as hell.  I could leave the house because I was so swollen (still don;t regret that surgery one little bit!)

I happened to stumble upon FleurDeForce’s blog whilst looking for a product review (I can’t even remember which product now!) and I must have spent about an hour going through her blog; I was hooked!  Then I discovered that she also had a YouTube channel and burned away the rest of my evening watching her videos.  I started searching for other bloggers to follower and found myself engrossed in the little community who shared my passion for makeup and beautiful things.  I wanted to get involved.  These girls shared my passion for all things beautiful and the community seemed really fun.  I wanted a piece for myself.

Then one January afternoon I took the plunge and set up my blogspot. I wanted to be involved and share my thoughts on my favourite products and maybe even a few lifestyle posts from time to time.  I was excited to take photos and learn about this new online world.  My blog has been a slow burner in terms of followers, you can see I’m no where near being a ‘Big’ blogger but I love it all the same.  3 and a half years later and I’m still here doing what I love – even though I’m doing it a bit differently.  No longer is my blog just a place for beauty addicts but people who love to read about all aspects of people’s lives… People very similar to myself.

I started my YouTube channel because it looked really fun and I loved watching different types of videos.  Again, I wanted to be involved and give something back to the community.  I’m so glad that I rushed home one Friday after work to make my first video.  You can see it HERE, unedited and all shot in one take!  My youTube has evolved leaps and bounds and again even though I’m not considered ‘big’ I love to do it.  I still get an overwhelming feeling of joy when somebody comments on one of my videos and I’ve had so much positive feedback.  It’s very much a part of my daily life now.

Even though I no longer feel lonely, my blog and YouTube is still very much a part of my life and for the foreseeable future it always will be.  It has opened so many doors for me both personally and professionally and I couldn’t be more thankful for that.  I’m not lucky enough to call this my full time job but who know what the future holds and even if this remains a hobby, I’m excited to see what happens next.

So to anybody thinking about taking the plunge and entering the blogging/vlogging world my advice is to go for it.  You never know where it could lead and shouldn’t be put off for fear of putting yourself out there.  Look where it has lead for some people, and that could be you next.

If you have a ‘blog origins’ story I’d love to hear it!  And if you write your own story on your blog don;t forget to tag me in it so I can read it 🙂
