The High Field Restaurant Review

You may have noticed (because I may have mentioned it one or two times) but it was recently my birthday and it because quite the food fest.  On the Saturday, Adam and I booked ourselves in to The High Field Pub, on Highfield Road in Edgbaston as we’d heard so many good things from lots of friends. The High Field is one of Birmingham’s newest gastro pubs situated across from the famous Simpsons restaurant and a stones throw away from Five Ways.  It’s also opposite The Edgbaston Hotel which has an incredible Gatsby inspire cocktail lounge but more on that in a future post.

We arrived a little early for our table so we had a relaxed drink at the bar before making our way to the seating area which surrounds three sides of the bar.  We were sat on a table next to another couple who had the cutest Beagle puppy asleep under the table.  I immediately loved the feel of the pub and the fact that it had a relaxed, country vibe even though you’re basically in the middle of Birmingham’s city centre.

After hearing that the steaks were the stuff of legend I opted for the Sirloin which came served still on it’s bone with chips and rocket.  I opted for a peppercorn sauce because it really is the only sauce to have with a steak (in my humble opinion!).  I’m a big steak eater and it really bothers me when places put steak on the menu and then can’t cook it – I’ve even been to steakhouses who have struggled – I mean REALLY? I asked for my steak medium rare and that is exactly what I got – actually I’m going to say that this steak was one of the best steak’s I’ve ever eaten in my life… and when your moto in life is ‘if in doubt…steak’ I think it’s pretty clear that you eat A LOT of steak!

Adam continued his well thought out ordering streak and had Braised Pork Collar, Black Pudding Mash with Sage Gravy and Prunes which he can confirm was quite delicious!  I’m not a pork fan but Adam will always opt for it when we go out if it looks tempting enough.  In this case he’s really glad he did.

Overall we really enjoyed The High Field and we certainly be back very soon. It has the perfect combination of relaxed vibe and great food.  I’m keen to go back and try their Sunday lunch. Maybe you’ll see me there again in one of my Weekly Vlogs very soon!
