Discover your city: Marriott Birmingham Review

Sometimes it’s easy to forget exactly what is out there on your own doorstep.  A few weeks ago Marriott Birmingham invited me to explore my own city and try their Birmingham hotel located at Five Ways – just a stones throw away from many of the city’s restaurants, bars and shopping complexes.

We’re really lucky that we don’t live too far away so we walked up on one sunny Friday afternoon to see what our local Marriott had to offer and get a good night’s rest ahead of a busy Saturday where we discovered our own neighbourhood.

The rooms were lovely; a twist of the old meeting the new with all the regular mod cons you’d expect from a hotel. Our suite had a living room, separate bedroom and a huge bathroom for us to enjoy with TV’s in both for if we couldn’t decided where we were comfiest.

We started with a relaxing swim in the leisure club which is located in the basement of the hotel.  We whittled a hour or so away around the pool and in the jacuzzi and steam room before heading back to the room to order room service and a bottle of wine.  Adam went for the Marriott Burger which I’ve had at several different Marriott’s and know you can’t go wrong with and I opted for the steak because I live firmly by the rule of ‘if in doubt, steak!’  We both agreed to try a technology ‘blackout’ night (well apart from Netflix) and curled up in the humongous bed to catch up on some more episodes of Suits and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Breakfast the next day lived up to all the expectations you’d have of a Marriott including a chef making fresh eggs which ever way you like including fresh omelettes.  You can also have a full english or continental breakfast, fresh fruit and yoghurt or a huge selection of pastries.  Combining all that with fresh fruit juice and I left the breakfast table suitably satisfied.

Were there any bad points? Just one – the lack of free wifi.  In this day and age I’d expect hotels to be including this now free of charge. However I’m sure that will eventually happen and then this hotel will tick at all the city living boxes!

Marriott Birmingham would make the ideal hideaway for a weekend break in Birmingham; weather that’s partying on Broad Street, schmoozing in Brindley Place or taking in the breathtaking views from the cube.  Considering the proximity to the hustle and bustle that Birmingham has to offer, the rooms are quite and peaceful and man oh man did I get a good night sleep in the bed… I wonder if i can have one delivered to my house?
