Pizza Express Spring Menu

So after yesterday’s vlog (if you haven’t seen it yet click HERE) you have probably guessed that we like to eat out… actually, we eat out a lot (see next week’s vlog!)  A few weeks ago we popped along to Pizza Express in Brindley Place to try their new lunch menu.
When we arrived a Pizza Express we were a little put out; we felt a little rushed to make a drink order without even looking at the menu and were never shown to a seat properly.  But other than that the service for the rest for the meal was great.  The waitress talked us through the new menu then we were left to make our decisions while out drinks were being made and brought to us.
We started with a Pizza Express classic; dough balls with garlic butter.  This is my favourite starter at Pizza Express and because I’m watching what I eat, we shared a plate rather than have one each.  I could honestly eat them all to myself – twice over!  For the main we both opted for something off the new Spring Menu and the Express Lunch Menu.  I opted for the Risotto Fresco which was light and tasted very fresh – full of leamon zest and packed with flavour.  I’m not normally a salmon fan but something about it appealed to me and I’m so glad I had that rather than a pizza or a salad.  James opted for the ‘American Hot’ Romanita pizza, a smaller version of the thin based Romana pizza on the main menu with lots of toppings including pepperoni and jalapeño peppers.  We also had a couple of sides; the coleslaw (I’m assured it’s delicious) and some Polenta Chips.  The Polenta chips were interesting – they’re Italian polenta with rosemary, twice baked and topped with Gran Moravia cheese and served with a honey and mustard dressing.  They were like nothing I’ve ever eaten before but they were super tasty.
For dessert I opted for the Vanilla Panna Cotta which was delicious and my first Panna Cotta experience.  For those of you that haven’t had it, it’s a light set cream dessert flavoured with vanilla and it came with a strawberry and some fresh mint on the side.  James had the ‘Summer Pudding’ which was packed with summer berries and served with a sharp fruit coulis (there seems to be some sort of red crap on my cheesecake? – name that TV show!) and mascarpone which complimented the sharpness perfectly.
The Pizza Express in Brindley Place has recently had a refurb and is brighter than it use to be.  It was lovely and quite on the Friday that we visited and after the initial issue when being seated, we were treated very well indeed.  I love that you can also have Pizza Express as a takeaway – including the new lunch menu so it’s perfect for it you’re in a hurry or prefer to eat at home.  You can check out the new lunch menu online at www.pizzaexpress.com.
Do you like Pizza Express? What’s your favourite thing on the menu?
