Maybelline ‘The Falsies’ Waterproof Mascara Review

Maybelline 'The Falsies' Waterproof Mascara

If you’re a regular reader of my blog you’ll know that I’m on what feels like a never ending hunt for two holy grails; mascara and foundation.  The search for the latter seems to be going well with the discovery of the Make Up Forever Foundation but the mascara search doesn’t seem to be progressing well at all.  I’ve tried a number of different mascaras but I haven’t found the perfect one yet.  The closest I’ve come is Benefit ‘They’re Real’ but that’s not quite right and L’Oreal Telescopic, which they’ve discontinued in my favourite formula.  When I sent out a tweet asking what I should try next the resounding answer was Maybelline Volum’ Express ‘The Falsies’ (Boots £7.99).  I was lucky to pick up the waterproof version in the Boots 3 for 2 (gotta love them haven’t you!) and that’s where the disappointment started.
Firstly, this formula is very wet and I found that because of my eye shape, it transfers or gets caught on my upper eye lid easily.  This is probably more to do with the wand shape which is curved to match the shape of the eye.  I actually found this to be more of a hindrance than a help.  Unfortunately things did not get better for me when I managed to get the mascara on my lashes.  I found this mascara to offer no length or lift or volume. My lashes still looked very natural, if somewhat a little darker than their natural colour but nothing of note which is not what I want from a mascara.  It was also very difficult to build up no matter how much wiggling of the wand was done.
It’s a shame but I guess this mascara isnt the one I’ve been looking for.  On a plus note it sure was waterproof and very difficult to get off at the end of the day.  It took my best eye makeup remover to get it all off.  I think if you had long and curly lashes already this mascara would be great for showing that off without any clumping.  Until the day when my lashes mysteriously grow into lustrous and naturally thick beauties, I’ll keep looking for that perfect mascara.  Throw any suggestions you have in the comments below!
