Every so often (OK, quite often) I’ll spot a blogger or YouTuber raving about a product and decide that I must have it in my life. With the
Revlon Lash Potion Mascara by Grow Luscious (Boots, £9.99) I actually saw a few YouTubers using this in their everyday makeup and their lashes looked so full and long that I decided that this product fell into said category. Revlon claims that Lash Potion will make your lashes lush, long and lustrous; the thing that I dream about at night. Sadly for me that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Let’s start with the positives. I love the packaging! It’s pretty, colourful and eye catching and it stands out against all my other mascaras and seems to be made of sturdy stuff. I also liked the brush size as it is quite large which is my favourite type of mascara brush. I of course, picked up the waterproof version and it terms of its waterproofing, it did quite well and was a tough cookie to get rid of at the end of the night (always a positive with waterproof mascaras.)
Now onto the negatives and I really do hate this part of any review but when they outweigh the positives they are very hard to ignore. Let’s start with lift and hold; oh right there isn’t any. After about two hours my lashes have drooped back down into there natural position and except for my lashes being slightly darker, you can’t tell I have mascara on. I’ve seen a lot of people claim that to maintain the lift you really have to coat this stuff on which then of course leads to spidery, clumpy lashes. Never a good look. I also found that this mascara is RIDICULOUSLY flakey and I caught on very quickly that if I was wearing this I’d need to do an ‘under eye black spot check’ every few hours. Also the more the product dried out (which was very quickly by the way) the more the flaking increased. I really did persist with this product but in the end I abandoned it and it’s now sitting very unloved in my ‘eye’ draw.
Overall, I’m really disappointed with this mascara and I’ve really struggled to find many good points about it. I guess this one just wasn’t for me but would probably suit somebody with naturally long, curly lashes that only need a mild bit of lift. I think if you’re perhaps looking for a natural look where you maybe just want tome colour for your lashes then this product would be perfect. I won’t be repurchasing and don’t think it’s worth it’s £9.99 price tag. The quest for the perfect mascara continues…
