Topshop Velvet Lips Review

Wearing Topshop Velvet Lips in Velveteen Ribbon

You only have to take one look at my lipstick collection to know that I’m all about a matte finish.  Especially in red.  My two red lipstick are both matte finishes and I don’t think I’d have it any other way! So you might wonder why I’ve added a third matte red to the collection but then again you probably won’t as I’m a beauty blogger and most of the buying choices I make aren’t logical.  They can simply be put down to ‘it’s research for my blog’.
I first spied the Topshop Velvet Lips in Velveteen Ribbon on Alix’s YouTube channel and I knew immediately that I must own it.  Firstly the colour is a gorgeous, deep red which suite most skin tones.  Then there is the pigmentation; they’re VERY pigmented.  You only need a very small amount to give an opaqueness to the lips.  Then there is the finish.  Ahhh the finish, that fabulous velvety looking matte which also doesn’t budge… anywhere.  I mean it.  I’ve eaten so many meals whilst wearing this lip gloss and it doesn’t move.  I have to scrub my lips at the end of the day to get it off and if I don’t do it properly then you can still see a small trace of the stuff.
I was planning on wearing this all over Christmas but then I got ill and dry lips and a matte finish are not a good look together.  That is the warning I guess I should issue with this product.  Don’t forget to scrub and moisturise those lips prior to applying this because it does cling to the dry patches giving an uneven finish in colour!  They are also very drying so can become a tad uncomfortable after a while especially when you already have dry lips to begin with.  The texture can also be quite weird to get use to.  It feels like the liquid is sitting on top of your lips and you could peel it off in flakes.
Overall, I really like the colour and the matte of this particular velvet lips.  I do however wish that they weren’t as drying on the lips and that factor is definitely contributing to me not picking up any more from the range.  Topshop are definitely ‘bringing it’ with their makeup range lately and even though this product isn’t perfect it’s reignited my love with the brand.
