The Beauty Preparation Pack

The holiday season is almost upon us and if you’re anything like me this means spreading yourself out in December between friends, family and the works Christmas do.  Mixing the social calendar in with Christmas presents can be expensive business and  Most Wanted – vouchercodes.co.uk have found that people are spending hundreds of pounds to get all the beauty products they need for the party season.  They’ve set myself and other bloggers a challenge to see if we can create the perfect party preparation pack for £60.  All the products shown in the photograph above came in at £60.52 (I know, just over) and I’m going to be sharing with you some of my own hints and tips to make your money go further this holiday season.
We’ll start with hair.  If you can’t afford a trip to the hairdressers then make sure you’re using fantastic products that really do work. Tressemme have been bringing it lately with affordable products that can tame your tresses. My favourite products are the Keratin Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner (£2.45 each from Superdrug) which nourishes hair and tames the frizz. The ‘Texture Style Spray’ is a great dupe for the Oribe Beach and Wave Shine Spray (£5.49 Boots); it gives natural, bouncy curls that are easily styled.
For most of us, when prepping for a party hair removal is a key part of the routine.  Did you know that poundland are selling Nair removal kits for just a £1 (obviously).  The last thing I want to spend my money on is hair removal but as it’s a necessary step it makes me a lot happier that it’s not taking up too much of my cash.  You can then moisturise your body and face with this tub of Nivea moisturiser, also £1 from Poundland!  It’sreally improtant in the cold weather to keep your skin moisturised and sometimes the old classics work the best.
Pesky spots are definitely not welcome at any time of year but more so in party season.  I’ll be using this Witch Blemish Stick (£2.49 Boots) to get rid of any little volcanos that decide now is the time to erupt.
When it comes to makeup, the high street is filled with hidden gems that are perfect for party season.  I think it’s important to start with a great base and go from there.  I’ll be starting with an old favourite of mine, the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation (£9.99 Boots) with a touch of Revlon Nearly Naked Powder (£7.99 Boots) to keep my makeup in place after getting down on the dance floor.  The party season means pulling out the ‘dramatic eyes’ look so my next products are total essentials.  The MUA Undressed palette (£4 Superdrug) is a great palette for a smokey etc as it gives you a dark black or neutral brown option.  It will also be great for the light browed gals out there as there are a few matte shades that can double up as eyebrow fillers.  For those that aren’t so lucky to match their brows to their palettes, the No7 brow pencil (£6.50 Boots) comes in a variety of shades and even comes with a brush to tidy and set the brows in place with.  Back to the smokey eye though and this is where I tend to splurge on my makeup a bit more.  Never underestimate gel eyeliners staying power through those sweaty dance floors and long drawn out family dinners.  I use the Maybelline Gel Eyeliner (£7.99 Boots) and it lasts all day.  To finish off my eyes I use the L’Oreal False Lash Telescopic Mascara in waterproof (£10.99 Superdrug) as I find it one of the few mascaras that doesn’t succumb to my oily eyelids.
Back to the face now and to give me some shading and colour I use the Sleek Face Form palette (£9.99 Superdrug) as it has a bronzer, blush and highlighter in it.  It fits into a clutch bag perfectly so is easy to take out with you on a night out incase you need a top up.  Matte is my favourite kind of lipstick finish and I’d recommend the Kate Moss for Rimmel lipstick in 107 which is super festive and the perfect winter shade.  They also do more netural shades if a strong lip is not your thing.  Finally to finish my look, I’ll slick on a coat or two of Lacura Nail Polish (£1.99 Aldi).  I’ve yet to have this polish chip in less than five days.
Of course going out is not just about what you’re applying to you face but also the mood that you’re in too.  I love taking a bath and burning some candles, especially in the run up to a night out.  I think this Melting Snowman (£2.25 Lush) has the perfect mixture of scents and essential oils to nourish your skin in preparation for a big day or night and proves that luxury doesn’t have to be expensive.  The candle (£1 Poundland) is a mixture of chocolate and cinnamon; perfect for winter!
So there is my idea of the perfect beauty preparation pack but you might be thinking hang on a minute, I’ve done the maths and that comes to more than £60, which leads perfectly into my top money saving tops for the holiday season.
Now is the time to exploit the big chemists on the high street.  I’ve saved around £15 on the products above by doing this.  Both Boots and Superdrug are currently doing 3 for 2 across a range of beauty and haircare products.  My top tip is to line your products up in your basket from most expensive to the cheapest then pay for them in groups of three separately.  This might mean doing a few transactions at the till but you will save the most money this way as if you clubbed it all together, you’d only get the cheapest products for free.  My way means you get some of the mid range products for free meaning extra pounds to spend elsewhere.  Now is also the time to remember all those beauty points you’ve saved up on various reward cards.  See what you have on each before any items are scanned through and see if you can bag one of your products for free using your points.
I’d also recommend checking out your local supermarkets for unbelievable beauty finds.  Aldi have some remarkable products that rival those found on the high street and remember to spend your Tesco Clubcard vouchers in their beauty aisle.  Also if you can go for multi-purpose products then absolutely pick them up as your money will go much further.
So that is my ‘Beauty Preparation Pack’ and my top tips to help your money go further this Christmas.  Any saving made, no matter how small can go on to bigger and better things.  Also nobody should be worrying about the cost of beauty this Christmas on top of everything out so relax, I’ve got you covered!  Don’t forget to check out the other bloggers Beauty Prep Packs but seaching #BeautyPrePack on twitter.
