Diptique Mimosa Candle

Ok so they say you’re not a real blogger unless you’re talking about candles… ok I’m joking but I couldn’t resist posting about this gorgeous one that is currently burning away on my desk as I write this post.  Back in September, Selfridges hosted a little 10th birthday celebration which I was lucky enough to be invited to (see post here.)  At the end of the night as I was leaving a lovely lady offered me a Selfridges goodie bag and being the uber-cool person I am, I think I got as far as the Bullring entrance before having a cheeky look inside and subsequently squealing with glee.
Inside was (as you’ve probably guessed) a Diptyque Mimosa candle*.  Don’t worry, I didn’t run straight home to look for the matches; it actually sat on my desk for a few weeks before I started to burn it.  I’ve always dreamed of owning a Diptyque candle.  There has been many a time in Space NK when I’ve gone it just to have a good sniff in their section.  Mimosa is part of their main collection and is one of around 50 scents currently on offer.  The whole Diptyque range pays tribute to nature by using carefully chosen raw materials so that the end result is a unique and intimate seasonal experience whenever you light the candle.
Firstly I must say this candle looks lovely perched in-between all my bits and bobs.  Diptyque candles are famous for their elegant packaging (the glass tumbler and the white and black label) and I imagine they fit into a home practically anywhere.  I guess the most important thing though is the scent which is divine.  If you don’t like floral then you’ll probably want to give this one a miss (with Mimosa being a flower and all…) but for those of us who don’t mind the floral smell, it’s a beautiful blend of mimosa flowers, hay and honey, doting hills with a light linger of the sea breeze.  I like that when you burn it, it’s not to overpowering but you can defiantly tell it’s there.  Even my boyfriend who gets headaches around strong smells (**cough Yankee candles**) hasn’t complained about it!
As some of you know, Diptyque candles do NOT come cheap and this one weighs in at about £40 from Selfridges.  I’m not sure I’ll be able to bring myself to buy another one but I’m looking forward to the approx 60 hours of burn time this one will allow.  Maybe I’ll try the smaller ones which are around the £20 mark.  What other scents should I try?
