Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner Review

Having small, hooded eyes normally throws up lots of different problems in the eye make-up department.  When it comes to eye liner on the upper lid, I’ve spend years wiping it away from my brow bone, because that’s where it normally ends up. I’ve never been able to find an eyeliner that stays put and doesn’t smudge all over my face… until now.

The Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner is the eyeliner saviour that I’ve been waiting for all my life.  Not many people know that the Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner is the original gel eyeliner.  These days most brands have some kind of gel eyeliner in their collection but it was Bobbi Brown that started it all so I guess we have a lot to thank her for.
Available in a number of colours (it currently stands at fifteen shades), the Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliner is extremely long lasting, and that’s coming from somebody with very oily eyelids.  I have the shade ‘Black Ink’ a jet black colour which is great for adding definition to the eye.  I apply it with my Sigma Eyeliner – E05 Brush as it has the perfect pointy end, allowing me to get a really thin line for when I just want to add a bit of definition to my upper lash tine or a big thick Amy Winehouse-esque style cat flick when I’m feeling adventurous.   I usually apply it first thing in the morning and when I get home from work around 6pm-ish it’s still in place and has barely faded, even when layered on top of eyeshadow.  It’s also great to smudge out and blend to create a really dark smokey eye and is easy to layer.
I also love the packaging of this product.  The frosted glass looks so pretty sitting next to all my other makeup and the tight lid ensures that the product won’t dry out after a few uses.  Following on from what I said about it being long lasting, it can be tough to remove but it’s nothing that a few swipes of an oil based eye makeup remover won’t get rid of.
Overall, I’m really impressed with this eyeliner and it’s rapidly earning ‘Holy Grail’ status.  I’ve used many dupes before which I’ve thought were ok but they really are nothing compared to the real thing.  I honestly never thought I’d find an eye product that doesn’t budge but I guess I was wrong, and I’m VERY happy about that.  I’m definitely going to be picking up the brown shade for when I do a more neutral smokey eye.  I’d love to try the green or the purple but I don’t think I’m brave enough.
The Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner is availble from John Lewis for £17.50.  Have you tired the Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliner? What were your thoughts?
