What my holiday taught me…

Yesterday I touched back down in the UK after an amazing holiday in Florida and I’m not going to lie, I’m gutted to be back!  Look out for posts about what I got up to, purchases and maybe even a few vlogs!

Due to jet lag, I didn’t really sleep much last night and even though Florida is behind time wise, I was up early.  I’ve just ended up milling around most of the day watching catch up TV (Britain’s Next Top Model and Kardashian’s anyone?) but my holiday has definitely got me thinking.  By the time it came around my holiday was much needed after a bit of a tough year.  I’m not going to go into detail because moving on makes you a stronger person and that is exactly what I am doing.  So here are the lessons my holiday has taught me.

1. It’s ok not to wear makeup but if you want to then that’s fine too!  The last thing I wanted to do on holiday is slather my face in foundation and powders so I didn’t!  Some days I wore nothing what so ever and on others I dabbled in eyebrow pencils and mascara.  I found the whole thing quite liberating actually because at the end of the day, in real life, who cares if you’ve popped out the house with nothing or everything on your face?

2.  OMG I’VE MISSED MY BLOGGING SCHEDULE… Guess what?  It’s not the end of the world.  Being so passionate about blogging, sometimes I can get a bit caught up and treat it like a part time job. Sometimes, the trouble with treating it like that is that you can let the pressure get to you.  I know I certainly do and allow myself to feel bad if I don’t get a post out on time.  I’ve read back through certain posts now and think, was that a half-arsed effort because actually I wasn’t in the mood?  Being away from most of my technology for two weeks taught me that it’s important to live, blogging should come second to that because at the end of the day, if you don’t live then what will you have to blog about?

3. It’s good to have direction – and I don’t mean trying to find your way around although those are obvious life skills.  Lately I’ve been struggling to define the direction I want to take my blog and YouTube channel in.  Having lots of time to relax and think has really helped me to start moulding my blogging thought process and this weekend I’m even going to sit down and write out some blogging goals that I hope to achieve.  This can also be applied to my career also so at so point I will do the same for that too.

4. You can get what you want by working hard – Self explanatory really.  I guess I really just need to define what I actually want!

5. Sometimes I need to stop and breathe – Having some time away from the natural environment and finding a way to relax can only help when you return to your environment   This holiday, I tried to remove myself from all things blogging, work and money related and just have a good time.  Having no pressures and just spending time with loved ones is the perfect remedy to any problem.

6. My spending is out of control – having surveyed the damage (reading my CC statement) I’ve realised that perhaps I’ve become to materialistic of late.  I’ve bought so many things and don’t get me wrong I love them but did I need it all?  No probably not.  I’m not going to sit here and say I’m going on a spending ban because that is unlikely but I’m definitely going to make more of an effort to use what I already have and really question future purchases and put some thought into them rather than impulse buy!  I think it’s time to start saving too.

7. My life is not all that bad – Considering I was actually standing in Disney World probably gave that away already but I definitely feel very fortunate to be able to afford to have a fantastic holiday.  Sometimes pausing for a moment and taking stock of your life can be very humbling and can keep you grounded.  Appreciating the small things is something that I need to do more often.

So there they are, the lessons that my holiday taught me.  I hope I can remember them all now I’m back in the ‘real’ world and I’m going to make a big effort to start applying them immediately.  Don’t forget to lookout for a bit of Disney/Florida related content coming your way soon and thanks for stopping by 🙂 xx
