My Mac Eyeshadow Quad

I was never a lover of eyeshadow when I was younger.  I wasn’t phased by it and I wouldn’t have even been able to tell you about about how to highlight your crease or even that you should use a different shade in your crease!  However since blogging, creating my own customary Mac Eyeshadow palette has been something I’ve been dreaming of doing.  I love my Urban Decay Naked Palette but it annoys me that there are certain colours in there that I’ll never use.  Of course the down side to building a mac one is the cost.  To fill a palette of 15 different shades is going to cost upwards of about £150, which I think you will agree is an eye watering amount to pay out at one time.
I’ve been building my collection very slowly, over the space of a year or so and I though’t I’d show you my current favourites.  I do have a big 15 eyeshadow palette but I put my most used, ‘everyday’ shades into my quad so that I can carry it around with me in my makeup bag.  I love the see through cover on the Mac palettes as its so easy to see what shades go together without even opening the product (a lazy girls dream.)  So without further ado, let me introduce you to my Mac Eyeshadow Quad, aka my favourite mac eyeshadows of the moment.
Naked Lunch
Naked lunch is probably my most worn Mac eyeshadow ever!  I’ve seen many people say that it has barely any pigment and as you can see from the arm swatch they are probably right. However, for everyday work wear I want something subtle that will still brighten up my lids and make me look a little less tired and drab.  Well, Naked Lunch is perfect for that.  I find it immediately adds some light to my eye area but isn’t glitterly and in your face which makes it perfect for work everyday.  Also, I don’t really spend too much time on my eyeshadow of a morning as I’d rather have a few more minutes in bed so this does all the jobs I need it too!
Woodwinked
Woodwinked is a fairly new shade to my Mac collection.  I bought it after having it recommended to me when asking on Twitter what shades I should add to my collection.  As you can see it is the perfect bronzed shade, or warm antiqued brown and when I want my eye make up to have a little more too it (but not full on smokey) this is the shade I go for.  I use Woodwinked as an all over the lid shade.  It has a ‘veluxe pearl’ finish to it which gives it is smooth, shimmery finish that almost looks like it’s two colours blended into one.  When I first started using it I was hesitant as i thought it looked slightly orange on the eye but when you take a bit of time to work with it and blend it, it can look absolutely gorgeous
Sable
Sable was another colour that came up in a Q&A Twitter session.  I’d bought Cranberry (see below) and I wasn’t quite sure what to team it with.  So many people suggested Sable as an over the lid colour with Cranberry in the crease.  It’s now one of my favourite combinations to wear when I’m feeling swish and want to dress my eyes.  Sable also makes the perfect crease colour for ‘Naked Lunch’ and that is the combo I wear everyday to work to give my eyes a tiny bit of depth too them.  It is an extremely versatile colour which I also use when going for a brown smokey eye.  It has a ‘frost’ finish and is like a cross between brown and plum which is why it probably works so well with Cranberry.  It leaves an eye catching finish to the eyes and can really make them pop.
Cranberry
Cranberry is one of those colours that has seemed to explode all over the blogosphere.  It was like it just popped up out of no where and everybody was talking about it.  Buying into the hype, I went out and bought it and then thought to myself, ‘So how am I actually going to use this?’  I tried lots of different combinations and finally found one that suits my pale skin; Sable all over the lid with a hint of Cranberry in the crease.  Cranberry is a shade that you must be oh so careful with.  I recommend building it up slowly rather than going for all out colour in the first instance.  I think it is so easy for this colour to go wrong and leave you looking like your ill with ‘deathly’ eyes.  I found an excellent article by Temptalia which really helped me see how you can use Cranberry to it’s full potential.  I think darker skinned ladies (or men) will be able to maximise their use with this colour so much more than the snowmen of the world like myself.  I’m extremely jealous!
So that was my current Mac Quad.  This post has given me the urge to go out all add another shadow to my collection.  Do you have any suggestions?
