NARS Event: Master Class with Jason Hoffman

Now I don’t normally do two posts in one day but I had to share this with you.   I was lucky enough to be invited down to Selfridges in Birmingham yesterday to have my make-up done by Jason Hoffman, one of NARS International Make-up artists.
His visit was in conjunction with the nationwide launch of the NARS Spring/Summer Collection which in the words of NARS is “a mix of bright and playful colours balanced with rich, saturated hues”.  NARS have also launched a new range of Tinted Moisturisers with SPF 30 called ‘Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser’.

My master class began with my skin being cleansed, toned and moisturised to give the best base possible for my make up.  This was done by a lovely French make up artist called David who told me all about my skin and the new moisturiser.  He then applied my moisturiser using his fingers.  We laughed about how I am paler than pale and he swatched the lightest colour ‘Finland’ and the second lightest colour ‘Alaska’ on my jaw before exclaiming what we both already knew, it would be the lightest one.  I think he was trying to make me feel better ha ha!   He added concealer and pressed powder to finish my base.
Then Jason came over to do the rest of my make up.  He taught me how to contour correctly so I could make the most of of my high cheekbones (who knew I had these!).  He used ‘Zen’ rather than ‘Laguna’ as I told him I wanted to try new colours and be a bit more adventurous with my make-up.  I learnt so much from that quick lesson and can’t wait to put it into practice.  For my cheeks he used ‘Penny Lane’ then blended it all together with a touch of ‘Nico’.  For my eyes he again used ‘Zen’ and ‘Nico’, showing me how to get the most out of my products and making them work for me.  He talked about wanting to make my eyes and lips ‘pop’ so he added an electric blue eye liner to my lids called ‘Abbey Road’ and a touch of volumizing mascara.
Finally it was onto the lips.  I told him I wanted to try colour.  As much as I love my ‘Brighton Rock’ from Topshop that’s as far as adventurous usually goes for me so Jason taught me about how you can make colours work in different ways.  He used the Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in ‘Sex Machine’ along with some gloss to make them really stand out.
I learnt so much from this little class, mainly how to utilize my make-up and make it a multi product.  I think that is the beauty of NARS.  They pride themselves on products that have multiple uses.  It certainly helps in justifying the price knowing I’m getting the best out of them.

My favourite product of the day has to be the ‘Sex Machine’ the gorgeous Velvet Matte Lip Pencil, closely followed by the ‘Abbey Road’ eye liner.  I was really impressed with the tinted moisturiser , it gave me a healthy glow with enough coverage to cover imperfections but still allowed my natural features (like my freckles) through.  I haven’t purchased my tinted moisturiser for the summer yet but this is definitely a contender and I took another sample to try as part of my own routine.
Thank you to everybody at NARS, I had such a lovely afternoon and will defiantly be popping back to my local counter for another Master Class soon!!
